MANILA, Philippines - Comedy Concert Queen Ai Ai delas Alas has set another milestone in her life and career.
The actress on Thursday disclosed that she plans to enter the world of politics in the future. And as part of her preparations, she is set to study public administration at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City this school year.
On Thursday, she enrolled at UP's National College for Public Administration and Governance.
"Ayoko namang masabi ng iba dyan na artista lang ako, kaya ginagawa ko ito," she said.
The comedienne said she is determined to finish the 4-year course. She hails from San Luis and Calatagan in Batangas where she plans to run for public office.
Actor-politicians like Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, who earned a certificate course in the same college, and incoming QC Mayor Herbert Bautista have inspired her to go back to school, the actress said.
Delas Alas was accepted after an interview with college officials. She also presented her college credentials to them. The comedienne earned a mass communication degree from Far Eastern University in 1985.
She stressed that she will continue to honor her commitments in show business, but she said her education is her top priority.
Meanwhile, when asked what her role would be in presumptive president Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III's administration, Delas Alas quipped: "Ako ang first lady. (Laughs). Hayaan mo na yang si Shalani (Soledad, Aquino’s girlfriend), wala yan!"
