MANILA - The country celebrates its 112th years of Independence Saturday with outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo heading the flag-raising rites at Rizal Monument in Luneta Park.
The flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies were simultaneously done all over the country, especially in some historical sites, such as Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Manila North Cemetery; Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan; Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City; and Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan City.
The outgoing president also offered flowers at the monument of the Dr. Jose Rizal.
The Independence day Rizal Park celebration features, among others, the resumption after two years of the traditional civic-military parade and a spectacle of 11 floats that each depicts sectoral achievements of the Arroyo presidency since 2001.
As of this posting, Arroyo delivers her "freedom speech," highlighting her administration's achievements.
Meanwhile, militant groups have also paraded 10 makeshift floats symbolizing the presidents 10 major sins to the Filipino people.
